Dresses

Princess Lotus with my dress!

I had always wanted to sew clothes but I was pretty demoralized the last time I did it. Haha. But since I have a large stash of fabrics and a new determination of making myself new dresses, I tried again.
Final verdict? I'm so going to continue to sew my own dresses for CNY! Haha!

Why did I started sewing?

My god. I was asked a very difficult question that I only managed to solve like so many hours later. But at least, I solved the mystery! Ha!

So, why did I started sewing?

I squeezed my brain real hard and I thought hard about what was my first project. Uh huh! Then I remembered. My first project was actually a little tissue pouch! And a little bag for my dear Shihua! And why I made them was because I was shopping at Daiso and I saw this impossibly nice cloth that shouts 'SHIHUA!!!!'. (Didn't take any photo! GAH! But, it's blue and white stripes that suits her so much.)

So, to make my imagination into reality, I bought the cloth and asked mama to teach me how to sew (she happily agreed because she thinks it's a good thing to pick up!). It started off with jaggered stitches. Ha! I broke uncountable number of needles. I have to scream 'MAMA! Help!!" so many times. Ha. Thank god I did not spoil her machine in the end!!

Yeap. So, that's how it started. A really beautiful start. So, I have to thank Daiso, as well as my vivid imagination, don't I?

From that point onwards, I developed a love/fetish towards sewing. And I realized how expensive this hobby can get. And how I would still look at fabrics and say "I have to make this with this!". And how terrible it is when my ideas are brimming out of my brain but I have no time/chance to sit down and do what I love. I should probably quit Science. Ha!

Sewing makes me really happy.

It's really amazing how happy sewing can make me.

I love all the trips down to Chinatown and Spotlight. You can practically see my eyes lit up the moment I saw a fabric that I love. I'm so serious because I really went 'WAH! *blink blink*' or 'OH MY GOD *gulp gulp* Haha. I took a look around me, I don't see anyone with the twinkling expression. Everyone looked so calm and and and, so calm! Haha. I thought what I do should be a normal display of affection towards something that makes you happy! Apparently, everyone told me 'no, it's just you being too dramatic'. OH WELLS! *shrug* I do what what makes me happy. =D

And this brings us back to the fact that sewing makes me really happy. I love all the mind provoking thoughts when I saw 'THE FABRIC'. I will start generating ideas on how to use it and I can just think and think and think until my project is done. I will close my eyes and imagine how beautiful the end product will be while shopping for 'THE FABRIC'. I will become really jumpy and excited the moment I reached the place that may sell me 'THE FABRIC'. I will leave the place with a big grin on my face that will not go away until I fell asleep when I got 'THE FABRIC. I will wake up with a lot of anticipation when the plan of the day is to turn 'THE FABRIC' into something that I had imagined.

This cycle had never been broken before. Yes, I love sewing that much and yes, sewing makes me that happy. I should probably quit Science and enter Arts.

A big and happy bag for Kelly!

It's been a long time since I last posted any entry. And that's because it's been a long time since I last sew. I have no inspirations with all the fabrics that I have stashed in my winnie the pooh box. But I want to sew. Like, BADLY!

So, I made a trip down to Spotlight and Chinatown to buy the best cloth that I can find! Woooohooooo! I fell in love with a few cloth at Spotlight. I was seriously in love.

The moment I saw this 2 fabrics, I knew I have to have them and I knew what I want to do with them. Muahahahahaha! HERE!!!

Doesn't the bag says 'HAPPY' all over? I love the colors and I love the polka dots and I love the strips. Everything that I love is all in it. How can I not fall madly in love with this??!! I'm still grinning with happiness just looking at the bag. Haha.

This is my first attempt in this design. Learned a lot of things from this! Haha.

First, having just a short piece at the side is not a great idea. Lol. I think people can steal my things easily. Okay, Maybe I could add a zipper next time. But, I'll lose the open concept feeling. Gah!

Heh. I seriously need more improvement on this:

I will sew this on only after making sure that all my fabric pieces are aligned. Hehs.

Make a smaller pocket next time. It's kinda tall. Oh, I added laces on because I thought the bag looked a little plain abeit colorful. And the timing of sewing of the lace should be pushed back a little. LOL!

More improvement on sewing straps. But heys! It's my best attempt so far! LOL! And urm, I love the feeling of having one design on one strap. This two fabrics must be together. LOL!

Not exactly the perfect bag yet, but it makes me really happy just looking at it. It will be a better one the next time!! =D

Inner Bag II

Hehs. I have to admit. This was not meant to be a inner bag in the first place. I wanted to make a recycle bag. But it slipped my mind and I cut the cloth and I continue to sew until I realized. HEY! Why is this thing so small?! Hehs. And because it was meant to be a shopping bag that I can put in my bag, I did not put any batting this time round. Results, too flimsy to be even a bag. So, I came up with another use for this!

Roses roses roses. But I don't love this roses as much actually. I really don't know why I bought this in the first place.

Since I have my walking foot, I've decided to try this one more time. It's much more successful that the Ah Bob that I made for TXY. But still, a lot of room for improvement. But at least, hehs, the behind is so neat and tidy now! Woohoo!

And by the way, I used white threads because I don't want the name to be super obvious. I feel that if you make it so obvious, it won't be so nice anymore. I rather want it to be like, someone accidentally saw it and say HEY! It's you name! And I love the feeling of white against a lighter color. =D [Well, mama told me I should use black threads instead you see. Haha!]

I ran out of my polka dots. I have to find something. And I found another love in my stash. SHOCKING PINK! Hehs. I feel that there's a contrasting effect. You know, loud pink with sweet roses outside. I like it. =D

I've said that I found a new use right? Hehs. It's now my inner bag. I'll throw all the things I usually throw in my bags into this inner bag.

And just transfer the bag when I need to change my bag! Woohoo! Now I won't forget my medicine, umbrella, wallet, pooh pooh pouch, water bottle anymore! Isnt that nice?

Oh, it managed to fit all my bags so far. And since it is so soft, it can you know, mould to fit all my bags! Hehs.

Love.

Lunch Bag III

Hehs. This is another lunch bag. I am actually pondering if I should give it away. Well, the 2 fabric is my top favourite you seeeee.. Hahaha. Well, babe, if you don't like it. PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME! I'm going to actually take it with opening arms. Please note how much I love you when I decided to part it for you. BOO! *Blow my nose* Haha.

I have to say, the first fabric that came to my mind was the rose cloth when I thought of Weng. Urm, I dunno why, but I feel that it'll be more suitable for her ba. Within the 4 of us, she's the most matured and I can never ever bring myself to give her things with cartoons on it. Ha! But then, I don't want the effect to be so old and matured, so I added my favourite polka dots to it. Well, add a little bit of fun to the vintage rose. I hope I had achieved that and not clash everything totally! Hehs.

The bag

My love. ROSES on turquoise cloth!

I need those laces. Badly. Hehs.

The bottom.

The insides.
I feel that I have achieved the feeling I wanted to achieve But, the maturity part was down-played quite a lot sia.... Hahaha! But still, I LIKE IT! =D

And sewing wise, because I had a little more experience making the same thing, I really feel that this is the best one I've made. Haha. Cheerios babe! =D

Lunch Bag II

My friends told me that they need a lunchbag. A little different from my lunch box bag because I think they want to put in their wallet and etc when they go out for lunch at work.

So, I just repeated my lunch bag measurements with different cloth for them! Hehs.

For SH, she chose this cloth herself when we went fabric shopping long time ago. Until now, the cloth is still lying around in my house. So, okay, I shall use this for her. (She told me to do it anyway. Hehs)

*Note my winnie the pooh turning up all around. Hehs.*

This time round, I made my own drawstring. I feel that the ends must have something jutting out. So, I added a little rectangle to it. Wasn't very well done, I have to say. Hehs.

Inside is the same cloth because I have no matching prints. NO CHOICE. BOO!

Not too bad. I hope she'll like it. =D

Handphone Pouch - Spongebob!

You know, I have this crazy idea one day. And that is, I want to sew a Spongebob for my buddy TXY. Hehs. And so, I started learning how to draw spongebob so that I am able to make a pouch out of the face. Boy, I'm good at it now! Hahahaha.

So, I had a first attempt at this. Urm, super not well done. I'm so bad at the zic zac stitches that can act as the embrodiery so that I can secure the features that were cut out from felt. Haha. It was a real disaster. But well, when I cover it up with another cloth, the behind look much much better! Hohoho.

But what made me want to throw it away is that, this looks more like a Spongebob rectangle pants instead of square pants ba. My measurements were too lousy!

So, attempt number 2 to salvage the situation. Urm, it's bigger now. But I feel that the face is looking a little funny. Hahahaha!

Ah Bob.
Backview
Bought a biscuit button to act as the secure. I bought it because it's yellow and that I feel that biscuits are cute. Well, to a glutton like me. Hehs.

Inside.
TXY had saw the new cloth that I had bought and she told me that she loves this. So, I purposely sew this cloth inside ah bob. Hahahaha.

Well, my mama don't want me to waste my effort (it was nearly one day of hardwork to produce this sia!) so she ask me to cut away the bottom of the rectangular bob so that it can fit her mobile phone. Now, does it look much better without the pants? Hahaha. But I feel naked for ah bob though. LOL!

By the way, did you realize that ah bob is wearing a brown polka dots pants? Hahahaha! I thought it look kinda more song and thus more cute. Hehs.

I'm quite proud of this actually. Hahaha!

Cartoon - Sanitary Bag

Heh. Haven't anyone of you have this trouble before? Like, you want to hide your sanitary pack when you go to the toilet, but it's oh-so-obvious because your bag is so impossible to miss. Haha! Or, the pouch you have is not big enough because you have to use such a big one. LOL! Well, I was given this problem and I should solve this problem for my buddy as a second part to her birthday present. Hehs.

I know I know. This looks like a sanitary pouch too! But hahahaha, at least the cloth is cute right? Hehs.

Sew stripes down to add some details. Oh, it's my first time doing this and I never thought it will need such a long time eh! Hehs. But I love the effect after that! =D And by the way, I got a walking foot the other day. Without that foot, I don't think this is easily achieved, especially when I have a layer of batting between 2 layers of cloth. It'll get stuck stuck stuck. So, a walking foot is really a great investment if you happen to love to sew thicker materials or work with quilt batting. Urm, a quilting foot will allow you to make more designs of course. But, I think, walking foot is good enough for me currently. =D

Here's the inside. You know how much I think the inside matters as much as the outside right? So, well, I used my favorite brown polka dots! Hooray!

Velcro. Hahaha. Another escape from zip. Actually I do feel that the zip is kinda more easy to sew after all. Every other thing is so much more difficult. Hahahahaha! But, I still don't like zips. Hehs.

Urm, I just happen to know which brand my dear buddy use. LOL! So, the entire pouch was seriously tailored to fit it. Hehs.

Well, if you think that's all, you are wrong. Hehs. Well, if you had realized it, the pouch on top can only fit one pad. So, you think you'll just bring 1 out each day? I don't think so ba. So, I made this to go along! It can fit more and I think it look less like 'the pouch' ba. Lol. It look like any normal pouch with a cute cloth that Kelly likes. Hahaha.

Gave it a drawstring this time round.

It's basically pretty the same in the entire design.

Well, you can put many many pads inside. Hehs.

But this is the main thing I want to have. To put the pouch that contains one of the pad inside this bag. So, when you need to go to the toilet, you will just take that one from this one and no one will know that you just took out a pad. Erm, I assume no one will take too much notice except for yourself actually. Hahahahaha!

My dear buddy! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! I can post this post FINALLY. Hehs. =D

Coin Purse

I have a current fetish of vintage cloth. Oh, roses are now one of my favorite!! =D

I actually went down to Chinatown to look for this cloth. And when I saw it, boy, I was SOOO HAPPY! And I feel that the material is pretty smooth and nice. The uncle told me it's from Japan. Well, I think for every single cloth I've pointed out, it seem to come from Japan. I should probably go Japan for fabric hunting one day. Hehs.

So, I tried my hands on this metal thingy again (no zip no zip! Haha). Urm, a little failure because I still have trouble gluing the cloth to the clip. (Oh by the way, I bought the clip from Daiso. For this smallest size, it is 2 for $2! I saw it selling at higher price at Chinatown sia!) And I realized that the holes at the side is actually for you to thread the metal clip to the cloth so that it's more secure. Oh wells, next time!

I love paying attention to the insides too. I feel that it's a very important detail that I cannot miss out too! So, I got this cloth to go with it! Oh, lovely. I feel so upset when I have to start cutting my fabrics lo.. Heh. They are meant to be a fabric and not cut fabric, you see. LOL!

But well, I was looking high and low for this brown and white polka dots. Apparently, it's not a readily available color at Chinatown. But I managed to find it at one shop eventually. HOORAY! I was already picturing how perfect this pattern is going to fit other patterns. Hehs.

Big roses are now one of my favorite!

Cloth Bag

I've always love recycle bag because they are made from 'clothy' materials and that they seem to be the right side for me all the time. I really wonder why. Haha. And so, I became a little fan of recycle bags.

So, I began to wonder. I can always do it myself with pretty cloth right? Since one thing that made me not love recycle bags as I should have is probably because some of them look really ugly. The prints on it, I meant.
So, I set out to make my own cloth bag (you know, plastic bags are made from plastic, so this should be named as a cloth bag! Haha.)

The handles were not long because it was meant to be a cloth bag and not a recycle bag. Haha. Because if I were to carry my bag and a recycle bag to work everyday, I reckon, I don't need my bag actually right? So, might as well do something that I can hand carry. Ha!

The cloth bag.
I love ribbons. So, I attached 2 'strings' at the bag opening so that I can tie a ribbon there. Another use is to close the bag. Oh well, skipping zips is my favorite past time you see! Hehs. But a sad case is that I made the strings a little too short and I had only attached one handle. So in the end, I cannot really see that ribbon at all! I can only feel that it's there. Hahaha!

The polka dots cloth forms the sides of the bag. I love this polka dots cloth too!! All from Chinatown, my favourite place! Hehs.

Side of the bag.
The insides and outsides uses the same cloth. =D Only the sides have the white polka dots.

It's now the bag I use if I need to carry clothes or something like that. I feel that it's not meant for heavy stuffs because it will use weigh down the bag and cause a bulge at the bottom since I had not added anything to harden the bottoms.

There's still a purpose to the bag. So, I'm happy! =D
